In mid-February 2023, a section of the original lath and plaster ceiling in the sacristy collapsed. An expert drywall contractor, B’s Construction, owned by Bruce Evans was hired to repair the damage. Mr. Evans examined the damage and recommended that a new 5/8” sheet rock ceiling be installed to cover the entire original ceiling. The installation of the sheet rock and subsequent taping and mudding produced a new smooth ceiling, on which primer and new paint were applied.

Mr. Evans observed that the walls of the sacristy were also lath and plaster. The plaster was rough and uneven. He proposed that he apply skim coats of mud to the lath and plaster to produce a smooth, paint able surface. The vestry approved his proposal.

In the corner where the ceiling had collapsed, we discovered that the lath and plaster was loose. We pulled all of the lath and plaster away from the chimney which forms part of the corner. Mr. Evans then coated all of the old brick in the chimney with new mortar. New mud was applied to all of the walls in the sacristy.

Priming and painting of the new walls were completed on April 29, 2023
